Q:
  What professional-development opportunities does AZ-TESOL offer?
R:
 

Each of AZ-TESOL's regions (northern, central, southwestern, southeastern) usually offers an annual miniconference
and/or workshop; in most years, there is also an annual state conference.

Information on AZ-TESOL events is posted on the website as soon as it is received.

Q:
  When and where will AZ-TESOL's next state conference be held?
R:
  AZ-TESOL's 2012 state conference will be on October 5th and 6th at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. More information will be posted when it is available.

Q:
  If I have a membership in AZ-TESOL, do I also have a membership in TESOL?
R:
  No. For information on membership in TESOL, go to this section of TESOL's website (http://www.tesol.org).

Q:
  I think I'm a member of AZ-TESOL, but I haven't received a newsletter or other communication recently. How do I know
if my membership is still valid?
R:
  To check on your membership status, you have two choices: (a) send a letter by surface mail to AZ-TESOL Membership,

or (b) send AZ-TESOL an e-mail message.

Q:
  How difficult is it to get a full-time ESL teaching job in Arizona?
R:
  It depends on the type of job you are seeking. Full-time ESL jobs are generally much more available in Arizona's
public schools. Full-time positions in Arizona's community colleges and universities are not nearly as common

  Can AZ-TESOL help me get a job teaching ESL?
R:
  We furnish general information on teaching ESL in Arizona, and we also post information on ESL/EFL job openings
(in Arizona, elsewhere in the U.S., and even overseas) when it is sent to us, but this happens irregularly. For other

Q:
  What qualifications do I need to teach ESL in Arizona's public schools?
R:
  In Arizona, public school teachers of ELL students generally need a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, a valid
Arizona teaching certificate and an endorsement in Structured Englsh Immersion (SEI). For more information, visit the Certification section of the Arizona Department of Education's website. For especially useful information on

Q:
  What qualifications do I need to teach ESL in Arizona's college- and university-based programs?
R:
  In general, you need at least a Master's degree in ESL or a closely-related field (such as Applied Linguistics)
and verifiable teaching experience. For an overview of qualifications, see our informational pages on

which have job openings.

Q:
  I do not have a Bachelor's / Master's degree, but I have several years' experience teaching English outside
the United States. Does this qualify me to teach ESL in Arizona?
R:
  In most cases, no. In order to teach in the public schools here, you will need at least a Bachelor's degree,
and in order to teach in university or college programs, you will need at least a Master's degree. Your
experience may or may not be considered when your credentials are examined, depending on the job
for which you are applying.

Q:
  I have a teaching credential that is widely accepted in Europe, Australia, and many locations outside
the U.S., but I do not have a degree or other training in TESL. Will my credential be considered in lieu
of a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree?
R:
  In most cases, no. To find out for sure, ask this question when you apply to teach in a specific institution.

Q:
  I want to teach EFL overseas. Are certification courses for this type of teaching available in Arizona?
R:
  All three of Arizona's state universities (the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and
Arizona State University) offer coursework in ESL/EFL, and the University of Arizona also offers a
short-term TESL Teacher Training program. For more information on other TEFL certification
programs, click HERE and HERE. NOTE: There are many TESL/TEFL certification programs,
both in the U.S. and abroad; some are reputable and some are not.
