The
purpose of this award is to provide monetary support for a graduate-degree
student at an Arizona
university who is preparing for a career in teaching ESL. The
award can be applied to any expenses related
to the academic program (tuition, books, travel, housing, etc.).
The recipient should epitomize the professional
and personal integrity and commitment that
Jean Zukowski/Faust so strongly personified.
Criteria for
Eligibility:
A candidate for this scholarship should:

be
a graduate student presently enrolled full- or part-time
in a Masters or Ph.D. TESOL program
or in a related field leading to a career in teaching
ESL or bilingual education in an accredited
college or university program in Arizona; |
|
have clearly demonstrated excellence in coursework and
promise as a teacher; |
|
demonstrate commitment to multicultural education and
community (through, e.g., academic
preparation, teaching, volunteer or community service
activity, etc.); |

|
show dedication and professional involvement by activities
such as membership in professional
organizations, community service programs, or presentations
at professional gatherings; |
|
be a current member of Arizona TESOL. |
Application:
The application should contain:

1.

|
a written statement explaining why the applicant is
preparing to enter the field of ESL and
indicating why he or she fulfills the criteria stated
above. The statement should:
|
include
a brief description of the candidates professional
activity or preparation,
such as teaching or administrative work, other professional
experiences, community
service, or relevant volunteer activities. |
|
explain the candidates
professional goals and how the program of study
will help him
or her meet those goals. |
|
|
2.
|
|
two letters of recommendation from academic and/or professional
references. |
|
3.
|
|
an official transcript of academic work. |
Applications will be considered on an on-going
basis. Currently, Arizona TESOL expects to award $500 a year
.
